Sometimes, when walking in the New Forest looking for woodland or landscape compositions animals come along and totally steal show. These two, looking at me over the back of another, were properly inquisitive. I was in a wooded area behind a fence so took my time to look at these lovely cows in the forest and be patient for the right composition.
The soft light just after sunrise gave them a gentle, subtle glow but above all, I loved the way they looked straight into the camera and were in no hurry to move on. In fact, it was the third cow in the foreground which moved off first leaving these two staring.
This photo sparked my interest generally in the farm animals on the forest and the people, the Commoners, who look after them as well as the ponies.
