My first time in this area was a strange but ultimately good. Having walked for awhile I’d not found anything that ‘worked’. This is normal but, it was cold and gloomy, not great. A fallen tree looked interesting but only if I had been drone equipped. Then, I could see the rising sun beaming down a track like some over powered search light. I had to walk towards the light and see the sun come up over the horizon. . .
This is my favourite shot from that morning. It’s always tricky shooting into the sun but tree trunks are brilliant at taking out the worst of direct light. And, if you get it right, a little star burst appears but you don’t get lens flare. Mist in the background helps give the whole scene a lovely subtle offset to the harsh light just beginning to come through.
