There are several special, named oak trees in the New Forest. Each has a story but no other has such an obvious connection to its name as the Elephant Oak. I’ve been in and around this Inclosure many times but, thanks to another friendly photographer, I found it lurking quite near the edge of the woodland.
I shot the tree just after sunrise on an early summer morning with tree yet to gain its foliage for the year. Apart from the obvious branch looking like an elephant’s trunk, it’s a mighty tree which I’ve tried to show in this shot.
All are printed at gicleé (archival grade) quality on heavy weight fine art paper. Delivered flat (not rolled).
