The mist hung low in an unusual band over heather in the Wide Lawn area of the New Forest, creating an almost dreamlike scene in the early morning light. Through the soft veil, a single New Forest pony emerged — alert and graceful, but also curious as it walked towards me.

I waited quietly as the scene unfolded, watching how mist and light transformed the familiar into something special. The pony stood poised against dense woodland, perfectly framed by the atmospheric conditions that make dawn in the New Forest so captivating.
