This single pine tree stands alone on a hillside in the Long Slade area of the New Forest.
Being in the right place at the right time is rarely down to planning in my experience. I managed to get this unusual silhouette in the middle of a shoot on a cold, frosty January morning.
It all just came together, the conditions, light and sun appearing to be cradled in tree where its trunk splits. My hands and fingers were functioning on muscle memory due to the cold, I could hardly feel anything. A lot of rain had fallen earlier which had now frozen making the ground under foot slippery and noisy as I crunched across the ice.
I wasn’t checking my photos in camera as usual due to my hands being so cold. Later, when I reviewed them, I realised I’d got this shot.All are printed at gicleé (archival grade) quality on heavy weight fine art paper. Delivered flat (not rolled).
